HISTORY OF THE ABNER WEST AND MARY HATCH FAMILY

    Abner West was born 1 May 1737 at Tolland, Tolland Co., Conn., a son of Samuel West and Sarah Delano.

    Abner married Mary Hatch, a second cousin, and daughter of Joseph Hatch and Mary Clark, on 3 July 1760
    and in a few years 5 children had entered their Tolland home. About 1770 or shortly after the family took up a
    new residence in the frontier town of Richmond, Berkshire Co., Mass. more than 60 miles to the northwest.
    Their house on Swamp Road, with some updating, is still occupied. Here 5 more children came into the
    family making a total of 2 sons and 8 daughters as follows:

    Prior to his marriage Abner served in the expedition for the relief of Fort William Henry in the French and
    Indian War in 1757. During the Revolutionary War he served 3 short callups between 1777 and 1781.

    In 1825 Abner wrote a Will. He died 8 Dec 1828. The bulk of his Estate went to his wife, Mary, and his son,
    Abner Jr. Mary died in 1829 and several members of this family are buried in a local cemetery just north of
    Richmond.
